Life Group Notes - Sunday 29th April

We Are Revolutionaries!
Sunday 29th April Speaker Peter Smith

Revolution: “A radical & pervasive change in society and the social structure, esp one made suddenly and often accompanied by violence.”

Mathew 28 v 16 – 20 The great Commission.
Some people hold back - why do you think?

We can change the world; Jesus came and did this.

Peter went on to do great things.

What did Jesus command us to do?
Why did he make us and for what ?

Answer—Relationship – God’s love for us.
There is nothing you can do to make God love you less.

Churches reputation: Is it Good or Bad ?
We have messed up sometimes, we need to apologize, people are looking at us.
We cannot stay the way we are.

Discuss ways in which we need to change?

Why is our society on the decline?

We need to think a new way:
What is the church? We are.

Examples of Revolutionaries:

  1. William Wilberforce: He worked his whole life to abolish the slave trade.
  2. Martin Luther King: He fought for the black community in America.
  3. Mahatma Gandhi: He fought for the cast system in India.
  4. Chey Guevara: South American who started a revolution.
  5. Mother Teresa: Loved people and gave the dying hope in India.

No 1, 2 & 5 were called by God, saw a need & fulfilled it.
We all need to be revolutionaries.

How can we be one in our community?

Jesus was the biggest revolutionary, people followed him.
Mathew 12 v 21. Overcame evil with good.

It’s not a catch phrase (revolution).
Reformation & Revolution are similar they both bring change.

In the UK 30 million people would say that they are Christian, just think the change they could bring in 1 week or 1 month!

What stops this happening?

Christianity is something we must do outside church, or life groups.
We need to care about people with aching hearts.
God has called us to a higher purpose.
It’s time to grow up in our walk and face the challenges.
The church will change this community.

We must look outside the church to the community.
The community is looking at the church.
We need to be at the forefront pulling others.

How do you think we can be do this?

Individually we need to step out again and again.

Donald Millar “Blue Light Jazz” quote “The problem! I’m the problem”
You don’t go around thinking I’m wrong or horrible.
It’s seeing that I need to change.
So how are we going to change?

Can we accept the views of others!
God has called us to love others.

Gandhi: “Whatever you do will be insignificant, but it is very important that you do it”
“ You must be the change you want to see in the world”

It must come to a point where we all say “I need to change”
I will do something to help that other person.

The only thing that stops us is us.
If our hearts are changed, this world, this community will be changed.
