Hebrews 11 v 39; Even the ancient men & women of faith didn’t receive what was promised – God planned something even better for us!
2 Peter 1 v 3 – 8; Adding these things makes us even more productive
2 Corinthians 1 v 18; God’s promises are not YES and NO, but YES!
Deuteronomy 28 – lots of promises for us.
The conditions to receive God’s promises are not how good we are, but how good He is – that’s what Abraham discovered – they are made ours through Jesus sacrifice.
Acts 2 v 39; His promises are for us, our children and all who are far off – all whom God will call
What are you doing with His promises? "If you … I will" is the pattern of many of God’s promise statements. We need to do something to activate them. A response is necessary. We’re not to be like a traveller, just letting things happen. No; we need to be active in praying, believing, receiving and laying hold of the promises for ourselves and others.
Philippians 3 v 7 – 14; Press on to lay hold of the things for which God lay hold of me. We walk into the blessings of God – Martha did what Jesus said. We need to take and eat, not just wait for it to fly into our mouth! Take every thought captive and make it obedient to Christ.
We have to get into the Word of God – learn to read the promises of God in the Bible.
Paul said to apprehend – ref. Policeman and a criminal – they are apprehended – got hold of. Let’s live in the promises of God; live in the light of His Word.
What promises of God are you living in at the moment? What bread are you feeding on at the moment? How about taking His promises to change bad attitudes, or to build and break through in your life or circumstances.
Hebrews 6 v 9 – 12; Not lazy, but proactive (see it in the Amplified Bible:
Even though we speak this way, yet in your case, beloved, we are now firmly convinced of better things that are near to salvation and accompany it. For God is not unrighteous to forget or overlook your labour and the love which you have shown for His name’s sake in ministering to the needs of the saints (His own consecrated people), as you still do. But we do [strongly and earnestly] desire for each of you to show the same diligence and sincerity [all the way through] in realizing and enjoying the full assurance and development of [your] hope until the end, In order that you may not grow disinterested and become [spiritual] sluggards, but imitators, behaving as do those who through faith (by their leaning of the entire personality on God in Christ in absolute trust and confidence in His power, wisdom, and goodness) and by practice of patient endurance and waiting are [now] inheriting the promises.
Don’t be sluggish, but make every effort (2 Peter 1)
