Judges 10:1 - 11:24 the story of Jephthah

Scenario, not unlike today’s political wrangling in the Middle East!

Jephthah was nobody… he wasn’t liked and wasn’t welcomed by his family… they drove him away!

As he went, “adventurers” gathered about him! We can become adventurers or become angry, bitter. The Adventurers… people of Tob sought out Jephthah because they needed a leader, they needed direction!
The people of Tob humbled themselves before God; they asked for forgiveness and then put away the foreign gods they had served.
When we come to God in repentance, our actions need to back up our words of repentance and humbleness to God!

Jephthah began to lead these people. He sent messengers to various places saying “Whatever the Lord gives us, we will possess!”

11: 24 Jephthah said to the Amorites that if they served their god Chemesh, they should expect him to help them not the God of Israel as they didn’t believe in Him!

Often people are like that today … They don’t follow the Lord and don’t believe in him yet want Him to help them when things go wrong… they won’t believe “their god” of self or the enemy’s ways, in which they live.

Jephthah declared that he would possess whatever the Lord gave him!

There are 2 types of possessing…
The promises for the future
The “now" things

We need to possess and own the things that God has given us now … family, friends, provision, salvation, hope, purpose, Liberty. Identity, worth, value, victory, power, joy etc.etc.etc!!!
As you look to what others have you cease to “possess” what has been given to you!

How do you possess things?
Appreciate them, be thankful… and use them, share them!!

The future… the promises for our future, for eternity… things yet to come… treasure them hold on to them… believe them!

First – know the promises!
Second – let them become faith in our heart as you dream it and believe it and act upon it.

If you don’t possess them… you have an enemy who will steal them from you! ……possess that which the Lord has given you!!
