Pastor Kris Govender: 5 Loaves 2 Fish!
This is the only miracle that is recorded in all four Gospels; when things are repeated in Scripture, we need to listen up!
Remember that the Bible talks of 5,000 men – there were women and children on top of that number so it probably came to 12.000 – 15,000 people that were fed that day!
Note Mark 6: 52 extra mention.
Jesus was talking to the disciples, not the whole crowd, and He rebuked them because they had hardened their hearts.
NB What do you do with the Word the Lord gives?
3 Lessons to learn from these miracles:
1. John 6 :1-7 Days of ministry
After a day of ministry, the people get tired. They needed food
Jesus calls on Philip – “You feed them” (Maybe because he lived in the area and knew where food could be found!) He responded in the way we so often do … cost, calculated, mathematically! When we face Challenges – never assess your difficulties according to your own resources – Look to Him.
With God, all things are possible. We must learn to live in His supernatural power – Take it to Jesus.
2. v8-11
Next up was Andrew! And he spoke some amazing word of faith to Jesus… “There’s a lad here with 5 loaves and 2 fish”
Then he did what we so often do…. “BUT… what is that among so many?” This was natural talk – without the supernatural ability of God being considered.
(There’s so often a “But”, with God’s children)
What the boy had, he transferred to Jesus,
What Jesus has is now transformed!
Little is much when God is in it!
Remember the widow of Zarephath… transfer it to Jesus… it’s who’s touching it that makes the miracle!
3. Mark 6:52
The disciples are in the boat, with the 12 baskets of leftover food between their legs – reminders of the miracle done!
Storms came - the situation was all over them, bigger than them, and they had the miracle before them but had forgotten about it.
They should have looked at the reminder, it should have been a testimony of the power of God, but they didn’t!
Whatever is over your head (the storm), Jesus says it’s under My feet!
Jesus walks on the very thing that is causing the problem. He was there all the time.
He is the same yesterday, today and forever!
AMEN.
